Dining at the Lazy E-L Guest Ranch
"Dunk yer mitts in the washbasin on the porch, bang the dust from yer boots an c'mon in...supper's awaitin'!"
Day one: It's 6am. You're sittin' on the porch of your cabin watchin' what surely has to be the most brilliant cotton candy pink, purple and sapphire sunrise against a back drop of indigo mountains rising in the distance... sippin' a cup of coffee...it's time to saddle your horse. Well rested eager legs bound across the yard to the barn as you gather your partner and tend to his care, while the enticing aroma of fresh bacon and coffee fairly drags you up the front walk way to the cook house a.k.a. Ranch HQ.
Gather round the table, swap stories, swoon at the tantalizing smells wafting from the kitchen...that's the Lazy E-L dining experience. The cookhouse is the first place everyone gathers at the crack of dawn for breakfast and the last place we see each other before turning in or heading out for an evening activity.Mornings are for chalk-talking our cattle drives, planning the days activities, and organizing teams to accomplish the set forth tasks while enjoying a hearty, homemade meal.

Every attack needs a battle strategy and most of our antics and adventures have had their birth around the cookhouse tables. An antique locomotive bell rings twice to call everyone to the cookhouse; the first ring means you have 15 minutes to finish your chore, the second ring means you're late. Wash your hands in the basins on the porch before coming in and finding a seat. Our cooks specialize in delicious home-cooked meals, complete with homemade breads, fresh ranch eggs, and vegetables from our family gardens.
If we get to feelin' that we haven't had enough adventure for the week, we may pack up the cooking gear and ride out to Shorey cabin; a homesteader cabin on the West Rosebud. No electricity, no running water, the perfect place to build a fire, create our own cowboy cookout and watch the blazing sunset disappear behind the mountains. At the Lazy E-L, we believe in supporting the local ranching and agricultural community so, in addition to our own free range eggs, and produce, we serve foods produced in an authentic, ethical fashion, free of additives, produced by local growers whenever possible. Our friendly cooks are happy to adapt their menus to accommodate special dietary needs or requests.
